Three young girls in their late twenties called Leila, Roja, and Shabaneh have been close friends since college. They carry their huge failures on their shoulders while nurturing great wishes; their hearts are buried in the past but their minds look to the future. They can neither follow their mothers’ footsteps nor are welcomed by society to let their ambitions and dreams soar.

After being abandoned by her husband who has moved abroad, naïve Leyla lives in her past, in solitude; a girl who’s extremely vulnerable and yet in love with Misagh. She is awestruck and finds it hard to believe that Misagh has actually left her. Nothing seems to make her feel better. 

Shabaneh has dedicated her life to her mentally disabled brother, Mahan. Their mother, a nervous woman always feeling miserable, has never been able to cope with Mahan’s illness, and to love him. Shabaneh doesn’t have an idea of what she wants in life. Arsalan wishes to marry her, and she finally has to decide for her life…

Roja is a strong-willed girl who has been admitted to getting her doctorate from a university in France and is full of zest for life. She has to leave her mother alone to go abroad, but, unlike Misagh, finds it hard to leave behind those she loves …

All three girls have a vague future ahead in an atmosphere in which, due to threats and special issues in women’s lives in Iran, it’s difficult for them to make decisions. 

Equally dedicated to these three women, this novel develops within the heart of the Iranian society full of complexities and issues related to women.
