DESCRIPTION:

1589. The pilgrims have stopped coming to Santiago de Compostela.

Religious upheaval, plague, and decades of war have plunged the city into crisis. The Protestant Reformation is sweeping across Europe, Spain is beset by enemies on several fronts, and the very foundations of the Jacobean tradition are under threat. Meanwhile, in the wake of the Spanish Armada’s disastrous campaign against England, Elizabeth I is forging new alliances and preparing her revenge. Along Spain’s coasts, fortresses are being raised, ships repaired, and troops assembled. Santiago de Compostela, a beacon of Christendom, stands on the brink of catastrophe.

Against this turbulent backdrop, Balboa Barrabás, a thief and former soldier renowned for his expertise in the deadly art of siege mining, has spent thirty years running from his past. Haunted by heartbreak and his own lies, he must undertake a journey he swore never to make again: the Way of St James. His mission is as perilous as it is personal—to win back the woman he loves, the woman he betrayed, and to save thousands of lives.

Following Ultreia and Suseia, Santiago completes Francisco Narla’s Compostela Trilogy with a gripping tale of war, betrayal, faith, and redemption. Set at one of the most precarious moments in the history of the pilgrimage, the novel revisits the dramatic circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the relics of St James, which remained hidden for nearly three centuries.

A sweeping historical adventure in which the fate of a man, a city, and a sacred tradition converge along the Way of St James.
