The book that the author of 'The Silent Duchess' has on her nightstand is the essay 'Gli italiani e la soluzione finale' (Longanesi) by the essayist Christian Jennings.
"It's an interesting book because, in my opinion, many young people know nothing about fascism, they are ignorant. The essay explains many things from the perspective of a foreigner who has a great and in-depth knowledge of Italy," comments Maraini.
